Annapurna Base Camp Trek: 12 Days

Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of the most popular treks in Nepal and it’s easy to see why. With stunning Himalayan beauty everywhere you turn, friendly, warm locals and natural landscapes, you’ll be remembering this trek for the rest of your life.

The trail follows the beautiful Modi River and intertwines with wonderful natural landscapes such as lush green grazing lands and rhododendron and bamboo forests. As soon as you head out from Nayapul, (the starting point of Annapurna Base Camp Trek), you will be immersed in nature and feel an unidentifiable calm in your heart and soul. Throughout the trek, you will also get the opportunity to talk to the native residents along the way who are known for their hospitality and warmth. The Gurung, Thakali and Magar communities have one of the most special and unique cultures in the country. It is a one-of-a-kind experience to be amongst them, drink tea, eat local food and enjoy their hospitality.

The trail begins to raise your adrenaline levels when these natural settings bid you farewell and the giants themselves welcome you into the Himalayas. As you ascend into the mountains, you will be greeted by the Annapurna Himal range.

Beautiful mountains all around and serene nature everywhere, it does not get any better than this. It can seem surreal when you return home to believe that you have just spent twelve days in the most beautiful place in the world.

There are avalanche prone areas at some points on the trail so we must be on alert to protect ourselves. The hike to Machhapuchhre Base Camp is somewhat strenuous but the unfolding view of the majestic Machhapuchhre is certainly a rewarding experience. At the top, we can enjoy the views of Mt. Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gangapurna and, of course, the Fishtail or Machhapuchhre itself as the sun sets quietly behind. Stay overnight at Machhapuchhre Base Camp. The path widens as we enter the ABC sanctuary. We follow a stream and then climb to a few huts alongside a moraine. There are sensational views of the near-vertical south face of Annapurna towering above the sanctuary. Annapurna Base Camp sanctuary boasts of a dynamic view without anything impeding the 360-degree panorama. As we arrive at this viewpoint, we savor the mesmerizing views of the Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Hiunchuli and other peaks as we watch the sunset. Stay overnight at Annapurna Base Camp. (B, L, D)

Heading back down to the valley is much easier than climbing up. We will see waterfalls that drop down from a high point to the rocks below. We further pass through the forests with great views of the Fishtail and Hiunchuli mountains. We head for a steep ascent to the Kuldi Ghar and then to Sinuwa following the stone steps that lead to Lower Chhomrong. Then, we ascend on the thousand stone steps taking us to Upper Chhomrong.
