Annapurna Base Camp Trek: 12 Days
Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of the most popular treks in Nepal and it’s easy to see why. With stunning Himalayan beauty everywhere you turn, friendly, warm locals and natural landscapes, you’ll be remembering this trek for the rest of your life.
The trail follows the beautiful Modi River and intertwines with wonderful natural landscapes such as lush green grazing lands and rhododendron and bamboo forests. Beautiful mountains all around and serene nature everywhere, it does not get any better than this. It can seem surreal when you return home to believe that you have just spent twelve days in the most beautiful place in the world.
Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu (1,300m /4,264ft).
Upon your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, you will be welcomed by a representative from Travel Society Nepal. After sorting out your custom formalities (Visa, etc) you will be then transferred to the hotel. The representative will help you check into your designated hotel and give you some time to freshen up. After this, we will attend an orientation about your trek led by our Trekking leader over a typical Nepali welcome dinner that will include a cultural dance performed by the local women. You then return to your hotel for your first overnight stay at the hotel (D)
Day 02: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara: 5-6 hours drive
At 6:30 am, you will travel to Pokhara by tourist bus along the Trishuli and Marshyadgdi River and through the beautiful countryside of Nepal that offers wonderful mountain sceneries. When you arrive, you will check into your hotel and receive a welcome drink. After settling in, you can go boating on Fewa Lake, visit Tal Barahi Temple and explore the sights of Pokhara including the caves, temples, and lakes. Stay overnight at hotel (B)
Day 03: Trek to Ghandruk -1940m (6 hours)
After having breakfast, we drive to Naya Pul and start the trek. We will stop at Birethanti, where we will eat lunch, before ascending to Ghandruk. While on the trail, you can start to see clear views of the mountains as we pass along various small villages like Chimrong, Syauli Bazar, and Chane. After crossing the suspension bridge over Khumbu Khola, we reach Ghandruk – a beautiful village mostly inhabited by the Gurung community. You can acquaint yourself with the simple but rich cultural traditions of the Gurung people as you relax, mingle with the locals and enjoy the stunningly close-up towering views of Fishtail, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli. Day 04: From Ghandruk to Chhomrong -2170m (5 hours)
In the morning, we will ascend for an hour to Ghandrukkot, followed by a steep descent to Kimron Khola. After another steep ascent from Kimron Khola, we have an easy walk of about an hour. Then, another steep climb lies ahead of us as we continue up to Chhomrong. While ascending, you will see clear views of the mighty peak of Annapurna South above the village and views of the Fishtail Mountain (Machhapuchhre) facing across the valley. Chhomrong is a beautiful village located on the lap of the giant Annapurna massive. Stay overnight in Chhomrong (B, L, D)
Day 05: From Chhomrong to Dovan -2580m (6 hours)
We head out of Chhomrong along the Modi Khola leaving behind the foothills and trekking into the wooded slopes of the Himalayas. We cross a suspension bridge, then trek up to Sinuwa Danda. The ascent from Sinuwa becomes somewhat flatter as the trail passes through a thick and dark rhododendron forest up to Khuldighar. Then, we descend down stone steps into deep bamboo and rhododendron forests before reaching Doban. Stay overnight in Dovan (B, L, D)
Day 06: From Doban to Deurali – 3230m (4 hours)
The day starts with a gentle, gradual ascent following the trail above the river through thick bamboo, oak and rhododendron forests up the side of the canyon. We cross two streams over small bridges and pass through solitary places bursting with gorgeous natural landscapes. There is also a possibility that you will see a variety of wildlife species such as wild pigs, deer, and maybe even snow leopards along the trail. Eventually, we will climb to Hinko Cave, an overhanging rock, which paves the way to Deurali. Stay overnight in Deurali. (B, L, D)
Day 07: From Deurali to Machhapuchhre Base Camp – 3700m (3 – 4 hours)
Today, we start our trek to Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC), starting with a gentle trek through a river bed and then a steep climb along the mountainside. There are avalanche prone areas at some points on the trail so we must be on alert to protect ourselves. The hike to Machhapuchhre Base Camp is somewhat strenuous but the unfolding view of the majestic Machhapuchhre is certainly a rewarding experience. At the top, we can enjoy the views of Mt. Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gangapurna and, of course, the Fishtail or Machhapuchhre itself as the sun sets quietly behind. Stay overnight at Machhapuchhre Base Camp. Day 08: From Machhapuchhre Base Camp to Annapurna Base Camp – 4,130m (5 – 6 hours)
On the way to Annapurna Base Camp from Machhapuchhre Base Camp, the vegetation disappears. We will see the snow boulders melting and forming small streams. The path widens as we enter the ABC sanctuary. We follow a stream and then climb to a few huts alongside a moraine. There are sensational views of the near-vertical south face of Annapurna towering above the sanctuary. Annapurna Base Camp sanctuary boasts of a dynamic view without anything impeding the 360-degree panorama. As we arrive at this viewpoint, we savor the mesmerizing views of the Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Hiunchuli and other peaks as we watch the sunset. Day 09: From Annapurna Base Camp to Jhinu Dada – 2310m (5- 6 hours)
At dawn, we relish the magnificent sunrise over the Himalayas from Annapurna Base Camp. After breakfast, we start descending from Annapurna Base Camp back through Machhapuchhre Base Camp, Deurali, and Dovan until we finally reach Bamboo. Heading back down to the valley is much easier than climbing up. We will see waterfalls that drop down from a high point to the rocks below. We further pass through the forests with great views of the Fishtail and Hiunchuli mountains. We head for a steep ascent to the Kuldi Ghar and then to Sinuwa following the stone steps that lead to Lower Chhomrong. Then, we ascend on the thousand stone steps taking us to Upper Chhomrong. From Chhomrong, we descend to Jhinu Danda. Today we will have an opportunity to enjoy the hot springs which is a 15-min walk from Jhinu Danda. Stay overnight in Jhinu Dada. (B, L, D)
Day 10: From Jhinu Dada to Naya Pul to Pokhara (6 hours trek, 1-hour drive)
We trek from Jhinu Danda to New Bridge and then to Kyumi village. After having lunch, we trek to Syauli Bazaar and then down to Birethanti. After an hour’s trek from Birethanti, we will be in Naya Pul. The trek ends at Naya Pul and we drive back to Pokhara. Spend the evening relaxing or exploring this sleepy lakeside village. After dinner by the lake while watching the sunset or celebrate your achievement with a beer in one of the many bars. (B, L)
Day 11: Drive back to Kathmandu and Farewell Dinner
This is an early morning drive back to Kathmandu. After having breakfast, we head back to Kathmandu. The rest of your time here is free for shopping and sightseeing. In the evening; you will be invited to a well known Nepali kitchen for a delicious farewell dinner of authentic Nepalese cuisine. Stay overnight at your hotel in Kathmandu (B, D)
Day 12: Transfer to Airport/Bus Stop for your Onward Travel
Our driver will escort you to the airport or bus stop for your onward travel. We will send you on your way with good luck and gratitude that you chose us for your adventure of a lifetime. (B)
