Langtang Valley Trek: 11 Days
This characteristic Langtang valley trek will take you through lush green forested valleys, sacred mountain lakes, and immense white peaks that glitter in the sunrise.
Trekking in Langtang is an incredible experience full of glacial landscapes, divine sites, lush green hamlets, clean air and vibrant mountain villages. A far cry from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu.
This trek can be done either by camping in the wilderness or teahouse style. We can advise on this depending on the weather. The local inhabitants are warm and friendly, the accommodation is simple and the food is locally sourced and delicious. This mountainous region is bursting with organic farmlands, red pandas & numerous bird species. Honestly, one of the most stunningly places on planet Earth.
The stunning Langtang Valley lies to the north of Kathmandu and sees fewer trekkers than the Annapurna or Everest regions. In Autumn, expect to see superb views of the great peak of Langtang Lirung (7246m), while in spring, this becomes an ideal route for those interested in birds and flowers. Both seasons allow you to reach the glaciers below Langtang Lirung and climb Kyanjin RI or Tserko RI for some magnificent panoramic views.
Our return takes us past the spectacular holy lake at Gosainkunda, an important place of pilgrimage, and across the Laurebina Pass to the end of the trek in the gentler region of Helambu.
Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu (1,300m /4,264ft).
Upon your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, you will be welcomed by a representative from Travel Society Nepal. After sorting out your custom formalities (Visa, etc) you will be then transferred to the hotel. The representative will help you check into your designated hotel and give you some time to freshen up. After this, we will attend an orientation about your trek led by our Trekking leader over a typical Nepali welcome dinner that will include a cultural dance performed by the local women. You then return to your hotel for your first overnight stay at the hotel (D)
Day 02: Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Trek Preparation (1,300m /4,264ft).
Kathmandu is the cultural heart of Nepal and has been a famous destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its borders to visitors. The city displays an interesting combination of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influences in the valley. Patan and Bhaktapur, the two important neighboring cities bear much cultural and religious significance to Nepal’s landscape. There will be a full-day guided tour to the historic sights such as Kathmandu Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambunath) and Buddhists shrine (Buddha Nath). In the evening, there will be a pre-trip discussion where we meet our trek leader and other stuff for your adventure trip. Stay overnight at hotel. (B)
Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi – 1, 440m (8 hours drive)
After breakfast, we drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi on a north-western highway through scenic foothill, picturesque landscapes, terraced fields, and rustic villages. En route, we will have magnificent views of Manaslu and Ganesh Himal. We will have lunch at the Trisuli Bazaar before continuing further to Dhunche, and then finally Syabrubesi. The journey will take us 7-8 hours. We stay overnight at guesthouse (B. L. D)
Day 04: From Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel -2, 380m (5-6 hours)
Today’s trail crosses through Bhote Koshi and follows the Langtang Khola River. We gradually climb through the dense forests, passing through the landslide area to reach a bamboo village (1,850m) where we stop for lunch. This forested path has well-stabilized trails and follows the upstream. The trail goes up and down but it’s not that challenging. En route, you could see red pandas, monkeys, and bears if you’re lucky. We stay overnight at guesthouse (B. L. D)
Day 05: From Lama Hotel to Langtang village – 3, 430m (6-7 hours)
From Lama Hotel, the trail leads us through rhododendron and pine forests towards Ghoda Tabela, which literally means ‘Horse Stable’ where we stop for lunch. The surrounding area is dense with wild habitat. Finally, we reach Langtang village – one of the oldest local villages in the region. Along the way, we pass water mills, prayer wheels, chortens, and sacred mounds of rocks with inscriptions carved on them. We stay overnight at guesthouse (B, L, D).
Day 06: From Langtang village to Kyanjin Gompa -3, 870m (3-4 hours)
After breakfast, we start our trek passing through yak pastures. We also pass the largest Mani wall in Nepal (carved stone with prayers written on them). From here, we have beautiful views of Mt Ganchempo and Langtang Lirung. Cross several wooden bridges before reaching Kanjin Gompa. This village is surrounded by Himalayan mountains. In the evening, you are free to visit the surrounding areas like the yak cheese Factory, an ancient Monastery, and the local houses. We stay overnight at guesthouse (B. L. D)
Day 07: Acclimatization day at Kyangjn Gompa (3,870m) Optional hike to Tserko RI (5,000m)
