Tibet Cultural Immersion: 7 Days

Experience local culture and Tibetan lifestyle in this unique 7 day trip in Tibet. Learn more about their fascinating Buddhist religion and visit iconic landmarks that have been preserved to honor and represent Tibet.

This cultural immersion commences from the ancient city of Lhasa – the capital city of Tibet. It is considered as the heart of Tibet and is filled with unparalleled history, culture, and tradition. The legendary Potala Palace dominates the skyline with its powerful and ancient architecture. The countless monasteries and temples surrounding the city such as the amazing Jokhang Temple and Drepung allow visitors to experience real Tibetan Buddhism first handA trip to these ancient monasteries and temples will leave you with a sense of amazement for years to come!

This tour will be completed by comfortable jeep, van or bus depending on group size. Our friendly and experienced guides will guide you through the whole trip. Often, stops will be made along the way in the historical city of Gyantse and the second largest city Shigatse for sightseeing and pictures. This will allow you to relax in these alluring locations and immerse yourself in the rich Buddhist culture. On this trip, you will be soaked in the Tibetan culture, lifestyle and the Tibetan Buddhist religion.

Day 01: Arrival in Lhasa by Train or Air

Upon your arrival at Gonggar airport or Lhasa Train Station, you will be greeted by your guide and taken to Lhasa City (an easy one hour and a half drive). The remainder of the day can be spent relaxing and resting. Stay overnight at a hotel. (B, L, D)

Day 02: Lhasa Sightseeing – Jokhang Temple, Barkor Bazaar & Sera Monastery

After breakfast at hotel, you will visit Jokhang Temple and Barkor Bazaar. In the afternoon, you will visit Sera Monastery, which is located just a few miles north of Lhasa city and is home to several hundred monks. Drive back to Lhasa for overnight stay at hotel. (B, L, D)

Day 03: Lhasa Sightseeing – Potala Palace & Drepung Monastery

Your journey to Tibet would not be complete without exploring the famous Potala Palace – the former home of the Dalai Lama. This palace is Lhasa’s prime attraction and is a true wonder of eastern architecture. Your first sight of this enormous structure will be a glorious moment to remember for years to come. We will end the day will end up with a visit to the Drepung – once the world’s largest monastery and home to more than 5000 monks. It’s hidden in rocky ridges just several miles beyond the city. Day 04: Day trip to Lake Namtso

Day trip to Lake Namtso – one of the four most popular holy lakes in Tibet. You can cross the great grasslands as you talk and mingle with Tibetan shepherds. Sit and relax by this stunning holy lake. Meditate, write or just sit still as you soak in the surrounding views. We can make as many stops as you like along the way to take pictures. Stay overnight at a hotel in Lhasa.

Day 05: From Lhasa – Gyangtse – Xigatse

Today, we will cross two high passes over 5000meters – Khamba La and Kharo La and drive along a tranquil lake called Yamdrok Tso. This drive gives us incredible views of the Tibetan Himalaya range. When we reach Gyantse, you will explore the Tibetan culture as you visit the Gyangtse Dzong and Kumbum. Then, the trip will continue another two hours to Xigatse where we stay overnight at hotel.

Day 06: Shigatse sightseeing | Drive back to Lhasa

In Shigatse, you will visit the giant Tashilungpo Monastery, local carpet factory and the local flea market as you observe the Tibetan culture and lifestyle. There are uncountable numbers of sights, both modern and ancient, to see around this city. Late afternoon, we will drive back to Lhasa via a different highway. Stay overnight in Lhasa at a hotel.

Day 07: Fly to Kathmandu or train / airplane to mainland China

After breakfast at the hotel, your guide and driver will drop you at either the train station or the airport for your next destination. (B)
