Upper Mustang Trek: 15 Days
Upper Mustang trek is a popular destination for trekkers who choose remote areas over popular trails. While trekking this incredible region, explore an antique Buddhist monastery, caves dating back thousand of and Himalayan mountain deserts. The Upper Mustang region is home to Tibetan tribes who have settled here from the western Himalayan range of the Tibetan border.
This Upper Mustang Trek begins from Pokhara and requires you to cross the Annapurna conservation area. Bonus!
Start your Upper Mustang trek through the holy river bank of Kaligandaki and follow the stream to get to Lo-Mangthang, which is capital of Upper Mustang. As you trek, you will get the chance to see and experience the thousand year old monastery, caves, local tribes and beautiful landscapes.
The upper Mustang trek to Lo-Manthang is through an approximately tree-less barren landscape and hosts steep rocky trails with panoramic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna and Dhaulagiri.
The Home Ministry of Nepal officially opened the restricted Upper Mustang areas in October 1991. In Upper Mustang, there are strict regulations that require a special permit from the Department of iImmigration. This is to protect their tradition from outside influence as well as to protect their environment.
