Yala Peak Climbing: 18 Days

Yala Peak (5637m) is the most famous, easiest and the least technical trekking peak in Nepal. It lies in Langtang region – north of Kathmandu valley.

Climbing Yala Peak is not too difficult so prior climbing experience is not required but previous outdoor experience and an average level of fitness is recommended. You will be guided by a professional climber who will take to you to the summit of Yala Peak.

Following the bus journey from Kathmandu to Sybrubensi, you will first walk through the dense forest and meet traditional ethnic Tamang people along the way until you reach Kyanjin Gompa. At the Yala Peak Base Camp, you will blessed with sights of the Panoramic Himalayan scenery. Lantang Lirung (7246m), Langtang Himalaya range, Lenpo Gang (7083m), Dorje Lakpa (6988m),Naya Khanga (5846m) and the mighty Shishapangma (8013m) in the Tibetan side.

Your guide will provide you a short training near by Yala Peak Base Camp upon your arrival. Next morning, with your guide, you will carefully climb to the summit of Yala Peak. In case of bad weather, you will stay overnight at Yala Peak Base Camp. If you have additional time, you have the option to do the Gosainkund Helmabu Trek for superb Himalayan views. Otherwise, your return from the summit will take you through the same way back to Kathmandu.

Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu (1,300m /4,264ft).

Upon your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, you will be welcomed by a representative from Travel Society Nepal. After sorting out your custom formalities (Visa, etc) you will be then transferred to the hotel. The representative will help you check into your designated hotel and give you some time to freshen up. After this, we will attend an orientation about your trek led by our Trekking leader over a typical Nepali welcome dinner that will include a cultural dance performed by the local women. You then return to your hotel for your first overnight stay at the hotel (D)

Day 02: Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Trek Preparation (1,300m /4,264ft).

Kathmandu is the cultural heart of Nepal and has been a famous destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its borders to visitors. The city displays an interesting combination of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influences in the valley. Patan and Bhaktapur, the two important neighboring cities bear much cultural and religious significance to Nepal’s landscape. There will be a full-day guided tour to the historic sights such as Kathmandu Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambunath) and Buddhists shrine (Buddha Nath). In the evening, there will be a pre-trip discussion where we meet our trek leader and other stuff for your adventure trip. Stay overnight at hotel. (B)

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,550m) – 7 hours

We leave Kathmandu in the morning for Syabrubesi – a village that is also the starting point for treks in the Langtang valley. On a clear day, we get to enjoy outstanding views of Manaslu, Annapurna, and Ganesh Himal. Our trek for today ends with a descent into the small village of Syabrubesi. Stay overnight in Syabrubesi. Day 04: From Syabru Besi to Lama Hotel (5-6 hours trek)

Today’s trail crosses through Bhote Koshi and follows the Langtang Khola River. Gradually, you’ll climb through the dense forests, passing through landslide areas to reach a bamboo village where we’ll stop for lunch. This forested trail is well-stabilized and follows the stream. The trail goes up and down but it’s not that challenging. En route, you may see red pandas, monkeys, and bears if you’re lucky. We stay overnight at Lama Hotel in a guesthouse (B, L, D)

Day 05: From Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (6-7 hours trek)

The trail leads us through pine forests towards Ghoda Tabela, which means the horse stable. This is where we’ll stop for lunch. The surrounding area is dense with wild habitat. Eventually, we’ll arrive at Langtang village, one of the most rural and old villages in this region. We will be passing by water mills, prayer wheels, chortens, and sacred mounds of rocks with inscriptions carved on them. We stay overnight at guesthouse (B. L. D)

Day 06: From Langtang Village to Kyangjin Gompa (3-4 hours trek)

After breakfast, we start our trek and pass on through yak pastures. Also pass the largest Mani wall, made from stone with prayers written on them. From here, you can see views of Mt Ganchempo and Langtang Lirung. After crossing several wooden bridges, we will ascend to Kyangjin Gompa. Kanjin Gompa is surrounded by the Himalayan mountains. In the evening, you are free to visit the surrounding areas like the yak cheese factory, the Buddhist Monastery, and local houses. We stay overnight at guesthouse (B. L. D)

Day 07: From Kanjin Gompa to Lahsisha Kharka (5-6 hours)

Today is set aside to acclimatize to the high altitude before continuing our journey into the mountains. It is recommended that we keep ourselves moving so we will be hiking to Lagsisha Kharka which takes around 5-6 hours. Along the way, we’ll get some great views of the nearby peaks including Dorje Lakpa and Shisha Pangma. At Lagsisha Kharka, we see a number of semi-permanent stone settlements where herders live in the summer months while tending to their yaks. We’ll stay overnight in Kyanjin Gompa. (B, L, D)

Day 08: From Kyanjin Gompa to Yala Base Camp (4600m) – 5-6 hours

We trek along a rocky glacier trail to reach the Yala Base Camp. From the base camp, we get astounding views of Ganchenpo, Naya Kang, Tserko Ri, and Yala Peak. After reaching the base camp, your climbing guide will conduct a basic training course on climbing techniques including the best way to use climbing gears such as ropes, ice pick, harness, and crampons. Day 09: From Langtang Village to Kyangjin Gompa (3-4 hours trek)

After breakfast, we start our trek and pass on through yak pastures. Also pass the largest Mani wall, made from stone with prayers written on them. Day 10: Summit Yala Peak (5500m) and return to Yala Peak Base Camp (8-9 hours)

We start our summit to Yala Peak early in the morning. When we finally reach the summit, we will be rewarded with panoramic views of the mighty Himalayas including Shishapangma, Dorje Lakpa, Ganchenpo, Naya Kang, Tserko Ri, Langtang Lirung and others. After spending some time at the summit, we head back to base camp. Stay overnight at Yala Base Camp. (B, L, D)

Day 11: From Yala Peak Base Camp to Langtang village (7-8 hours)

Day 12: From Langtang village to Thulo Syabru (5-6 hours)

Again, we take a relatively familiar route, through woods and along the river valley passing Bamboo Lodge, where we ascend uphill to the Sherpa village of Thulo Syabru. Stay overnight in Thulo Syabru. (B, L, D)

Day 13: From Thulo Syabru to Gosainkunda (7-8 hours)

Today, we get to enjoy fantastic panoramic views of the Himalayas including the Annapurnas, Hiunchuli, Manaslu, Ganesh, and Langtang. We follow a ridge for the most part of the day and catch a glimpse of the first of the holy lakes. The third lake, Gosaikunda (4380m), has religious and cultural significance for Nepali people and is one of Nepal’s most sought after pilgrimage sites. The lake is surrounded by mountains on almost all sides and has a great ensemble of nine other lakes to accompany it. Every year during Janai Purnima in August, hundreds of Hindu pilgrims visit the lake for a holy bath. The large rock at the center of the lake is said to be the remains of a Shiva shrine. Day 14: From Gosainkunda to Tharapati (3600m) – 7-8 hours

We move around the lake’s shore before ascending towards the Laurebina Pass (4610m). The Helambu region begins at the Lauribina La (pass) and descends to the Melamchi valley. The trail is rough and crosses moraines, but is well marked with cairns. We pass through three more small lakes before reaching the pass. We climb a small hill and enjoy excellent views of the area. Our trail passes through Surajkunda, Ghopte, and beautiful forests before reaching Tharepati. Stay overnight in Tharepati. (B, L, D)

Day 16: From Tharapati to Timbu (6-7 hours)

Today we leave Tharapati and head for  Timbu, which will be our last walk as we will be driving from Timbu back to Kathmandu. We descend through lush rhododendron forests and pass several chortens and mani walls before reaching Timbu. The village is well cultivated and beautiful. Stay overnight in Timbu. (B, L, D)

Day 17: Drive from Timbu to Kathmandu (4-5 hours)

From Timbu, we drive back to Kathmandu. After reaching Kathmandu, and checking in to your hotel, the rest of your day is free. You will be invited for a delicious farewell dinner of the original Nepalese cuisine to celebrate your achievement. As you enjoy your meal, you will also be entertained with an exciting cultural dance performed by the local women. Stay overnight at hotel (B. L. D)

Day 18: Transfer to Airport/Bus Stop for your Onward Travel

Our driver will escort you to the airport or bus stop for your onward travel. We will send you on your way with good luck and gratitude that you chose us for your adventure of a lifetime. (B)
